Savigliano is an important centre lying in the Cuneo valley, between the Maira and Mellea torrents at the meeting point between the roads to the Tenda mountain pass and to Bra and Alba.
It was already a major farming village in Roman times, but its heyday came later in the Middle Ages and the period of the Renaissance.

The old town centre gathers around a charming square named after a locally-born patriot, Santorre di Santarosa, which is encircled by town houses with porticoes overlooked by an imposing tower.
The town’s history and art are recorded in the Town Museum and “Gipsoteca”.
